Background

Miqlat, “Place of refuge and hope”, is a beacon of love and safety for children and families in the Western Cape. Many of them are struggling to cope with poverty, HIV/AIDS, poor nutrition and longterm unemployment.
Located in Paarl, Miqlat is a is a community upliftment organization - the name reflecting the aims of the organisation that was started by Hester Veldsman in 1994.
The Miqlat team concentrates on delivering numerous community development programs and is supported by donations from local and international churches, businesses and individual benefactors.
Full-time local staff are assisted by community and short term international volunteers. Miqlat operates as a qualified Section 21 (non-profit) company under South African law.

Miqlat’s Mission

Miqlat mobilises people to help children and families living in conditions of poverty, despair and violence. We respond to crisis as well as initiate, organise, facilitate, and provide programmes assisting the upliftment of communities and the training of future leaders. We focus on the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the community.
